Pokemon Cup Finalists

The St John’s Primary Academy girls Year 5/6 Football squad have managed to qualify to represent the Midlands at the English Schools Football Association Pokemon Schools Cup finals.

The Pokémon Primary Schools’ Cup is the largest schools’ football competition for primary-aged children in England. It involves over 5,000 school teams and more than 50,000 children, all competing in this massive tournament held across the country.

The U11 Schools’ Cup, U11 Girls’ Cup, and U11 Small Schools’ Cup offer a structured route for teams to advance through three rounds of the competition. The top 24 teams will earn the chance to compete at the National Finals, where the National Champions will be crowned. This tournament emphasizes the ESFA’s “15 Benefits” of schools’ football, which include:

  • Building positive relationships

  • Fostering a sense of belonging within a team

  • Promoting teamwork

  • Instilling respect

The girls’ team secured their place in the finals by triumphing in Area, District, and Regional tournaments and the finals are set to be held in May at Stoke City’s BET365 Stadium, home to the Championship side. Last year’s competition was broadcast live on YouTube and featured on Sky TV as well! We’re excited to cheer on the girls in the Final.
